Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is the largest provider of legal aid in Texas. With more than 60 counties, including Austin, in its service area, TRLA provides services in the areas of real estate, civil rights, environmental justice, labor, and employment, among others. Our mission is to ensure equal justice for all Texans by educating, empowering and representing vulnerable people while reshaping the broader legal system that affects us all. We serve 72 counties in Texas and 4 in Arkansas by offering free advocacy, legal advocacy, and community building services that ensure equal access to justice. Volunteer Legal Services (LAS) has been helping low-income individuals who need legal help since 1981. They provide services such as legal clinics and one-on-one representation by volunteer lawyers, and often work with local law firms for family law matters, including divorce and custody. With services in more than 72 Texas counties, including Austin County, Lone Star Legal Aid is the fourth largest provider of free legal aid in the country. The organization focuses its resources on issues of maintaining housing, improving outcomes for children, supporting people with disabilities or seniors, and more. There are many ways to offer pro bono legal services, including working at a legal aid clinic, mentoring another lawyer in an area of law in which you have expertise, or taking on a case from a legal aid agency. Volunteer Legal Counsel: Free Legal Clinics VLS organizes free general legal consultations and admissions clinics at local colleges on Monday and Wednesday evenings. and also offers specialized counselling centres for specific legal issues such as special education and HIV/AIDS. Lawyers, interpreters and others volunteer at these clinics to provide brief advice to people with civil law problems. Texas Advocacy Project Texas Advocacy Project is a nonprofit organization that works directly with victims, shelters, law enforcement, and courts across Texas to provide effective legal services to Texans in need. The Texas Advocacy Project provides free legal services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking nationwide. They offer free legal help lines for victims and various programs that protect victims from their abusers. Lone Star Legal Aid uses a selection procedure for its clients. In 2011, VLS provided services to more than 5,500 people for legal assistance worth more than $4.9 million. Financial benefits to clients amounted to more than $3.6 million. Lawyer Placement Service: LegalLine – Free Legal Help Line Call 512-472-8303 for LegalLine every first Tuesday of the month from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm for LegalLine, the free legal hotline that answers legal questions over the phone. LegalLine is sponsored by the Lawyer Referral Service of Central Texas and is comprised of volunteer attorneys who answer legal questions and provide brief legal advice.

TRLA provides legal services to people in 68 counties: Austin Bar Association: Veterans Free Legal Advice Clinic The next clinic will be held on Monday, September 9. September 2013. The Austin Bar Association hosts a free legal counseling clinic once a month at the Austin VA Outpatient Clinic (new facility), 7901 Metropolis Drive, Austin, Texas 78741, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for all U.S. veterans. Austin has plenty of places to go if you need free or discounted legal help. During pro bono spring break, more than 50 law students and supervising faculty members travel across the state to help low-income Texans solve their civil law problems.
