God Got His Hands Dirty
are not so great. God has given us eyes to see, and I trust that we
will be honest enough and wise enough to acknowledge that many
churches are in a critical crisis.
Number 2, remember. (3:3) Remember the promises of God
which will not fail. Remember the person and work of the Lord
Jesus Christ. John encouraged us to remember our first love and
reclaim it. Jesus taught us the Holy Spirit would bring things to our
remembrance. The words of Haggai should haunt us to a certain
degree. He asked the people of his generation, “Who saw the house
in its first glory? How do you see it now?” Then he answered his own
question like this. It is nothing by way of comparison. (Haggai 2:3, 9)
The Psalmist had a fond recollection when he wrote, “I call to
remembrance my song in the night…” (Psalms 77:6) He also said, “I
have remembered thy name in the night…” (Psalms 119:55) It was
when Peter “remembered the words of Jesus” that it brought tears
of repentance to his eyes. No doubt these are precious times that
Peter had in mind when he wrote these words to believers who
needed to be revived. “I stir up your minds by way of remembrance.”
             (II Peter 3:1)

Kevin Arnold explained memories beautifully when he said,
“Memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things
you are, and the things you never want to lose.” The First Church
of the Almost Dead needs to have a resurrection of memories and
hold on to the ones you don’t want to lose.
Number 3, repent. (3:3) It means a change of mind and heart
which includes a change of direction. It means that we will make
things happen rather than to hope things will change for the good.
It means I will not continue to do certain things and will make every
eff ort to do some that I
When true repentance takes place, may not have done
it turns loose of trusting our before. Henry Ford
feelings and stands fast on faith said, “If you always do
which is the daring of the soul to what you’ve done,
go farther than it can see. you’ll always get what
                                                    you’ve always got.”
Repentance means I will use God power instead of man power.
